形容詞子句與名詞子句

No matter...//...-ever

This is Sandy's learning notes for my students. 

連接詞用法No matter wh-，用來引導副詞子句，

意思為「無論‧‧‧」。可代換成 wh- +ever。

                             no matter what…       無論什麼     =whatever

                             no matter how…        無論如何     =however

                             no matter who…        無論是誰     =whoever(whomever)

                             no matter when…      無論何時     =whenever

                             no matter where…     無論哪裡     =wherever

1.注意：
「no matter wh- S V, S V」：引導副詞子句。
「wh- +ever…」：引導副詞子句、名詞子句。

因此No matter what 可以換成 whatever。(副詞子句情況下)

但 whatever當名詞子句時則不可以變成no matter what。

名詞子句：當句子的主詞或受詞用。

副詞子句：作為修飾或者附屬條件(時地因果)

I don’t believe whatever you said. (名詞子句)

=I don’t believe no matter what you said. (錯誤)

You can’t trust Lisa no matter what she says.               (副詞子句)

= You can’t trust Lisa whatever she says.                       (可放句中)

= No matter what Lisa says, you can’t trust her.           (可放句首)

= Whatever Lisa says, you can’t trust her.

2.其後動詞可為 一般V或may be。

      而No matter how/ however後先接Adj./Adv.才接子句。

eg. No matter who comes/ may come, don’t open the door. =(Whoever)

eg. No matter how smart you are/ may be, it will be impossible to win the game. =(However)

Relative Clause 關係子句/形容詞子句

                                                           先行詞        關係代名詞

                                                                                 當形容詞修飾先行詞

先行詞	主格	受格(可省略)
人	who	whom
事物/非人	which	which
人/事物	that	that

◎依先行詞的不同而選擇不一樣的關代。

◎受格時可以省略，但前有「介係詞」時不可省略。(也不可that)

◎可用that代替who/whom/which，但有限制。

◎Which可以指前面整件事/句子。

               §不可以用that：在 ¹介係詞  ²逗號 之後。

               §必用that：

1.最高級：	She is the tallest girl that I have ever met.
2.序數：	Lisa was the first student that came into the class.
3.先行詞為「人+物」：	The man and the dog that got run over by the car were both killed.
4.有 the only, the same, all, no, everything, nothing等字：	Nick is the only person that treats me well.
5.已有 wh- 開頭的疑問詞：	Who is the man that stands there?

                                                          ※限定用法：先行詞範圍 大 ，縮小限定範圍

                                                          ※補充用法：先行詞範圍 小，補充說明即可，有逗號
